"Don't be afraid to fail. Be afraid not to TRI."
I have enjoyed two passions during my adult life: participating in the sport of triathlon and teaching/coaching. Having a background as a high school and collegiate cross country & track athlete, my participation in triathlon began in the mid-1980’s (yes, I even wore the speedo’s that were so fashionable back then, lol). I have ventured into and out of triathlon 3-4 times over the years. Like so many others, life would consume much of my time, not leaving much room for myself or my health. In 2011, I found myself in my 40’s and being the most over-weight, out of shape, and unhealthy person I have ever been. I worked hard to get the excess weight off and regain my health. But, I knew if I didn’t have a goal, if I wasn’t training for something, then my effort would be short lived. I turned back to my roots…TRIATHLON! Since 2011, I have been able to maintain my health and be competitive through the sport of triathlon. I have race experience at the Sprint, Olympic, and 70.3 distances with multiple “podium” finishes.
My second passion is teaching/coaching. I have been a cross country/track and field coach for the past 30 years. For the last 23 years, I have served as the head boys & girls cross country/track & field coach at L.D. Bell HS. I am a science teacher as well. I have taught biology, anatomy & physiology, physics, and chemistry. My high school coaching resume includes: qualifying 19 teams and 61 individuals to the Regional CC Meet, qualifying 284 athletes to the Regional Track Meet, qualifying 16 athletes to the State Track Meet, 9 athletes have been nationally ranked, 51 girls track and field school records broken, 45 boys track and field school records broken, 15 team district championships, 13 team district runner-up finishes, and helping over 48 student-athletes moving on to compete in cross country and/or track and field at the college level.
The natural progression is to merge my passions. I want to use my talents as a coach/educator to help you experience a healthy lifestyle utilizing the sport of triathlon!
