Running 101

Spring is around the corner and so is the sudden increase of temperature, sunshine, and runners clogging up the trails. For new runners this can be intimidating. Am I doing this right? Am I wearing the right outfit? What’s the 411 on hydration belts, cool or not cool? Whatever it may be there are many things that distract beginners from the main goal: RUNNING.  At Playtri, we have an abundance of resources to get you started. Here are a few tips to help ensure success with your new running goals and how we can help you.

1.     Go shoe shopping

Like Cinderella at the ball, the right shoe for you is not necessarily the right shoe for everyone.  Take a visit to Playtri where we can fit you with a variety of different running shoes. Our staff is knowledgeable and can provide you with options that will accommodate your running style. It’s your job to decide what feels the best. When you have the right shoe, you are more likely to enjoy getting out the door.

2.     Find a Group

Accountability, motivation, inspiration, and camaraderie are things that come from group running. It’s hard to get out of bed in the morning when you’re running by yourself. But when you know there is a group waiting for you to join them, it keeps you on track with your goals. At Playtri we welcome everyone to our group runs on Wednesday mornings at 6am from our Dallas location. This run is open to runners of all levels. Your group becomes your support system and they want to see you succeed.

3.     Stay Consistent

You know that saying Rome wasn’t built in a day? Well, neither is fitness. Staying consistent is what will make your running goals a reality down the road. By training with one of our Playtri Certified coaches you are making the commitment to stick with it. Building a foundation of fitness will make you a more confident runner and we want to help build you to be a life long athlete with world class potential.

4.     Stay Hydrated

Try to stay away from sugary sports drink and always keep a water bottle with you throughout the day. Staying hydrated is not only good for your muscles; it’s also good for your mind. Being dehydrated can mentally impact your routine no matter how strong you are. Buy a reusable water bottle and take a look at some of our athlete tested hydration products located at all Playtri locations.

5.     Get Rest!

Rest and recovery is the most important part of training because it gets you ready for the workout. If you are not fully recovered, you are not giving your body what it needs to get stronger. Take a off day; get in an ice bath, stretch while you’re watching TV, and GET SLEEP. All of these things will help you build stronger muscles and get you ready to tackle your next workout. We offer a variety of services that can help you optimize your recovery time such as access to a Cryosauna, foam rollers, and nutritional guidance.
