WHAT TO EXPECT:

This course is designed to prepare athletes, coaches and/or other interested individuals to:

  • Better understand the Playtri coaching model and the related science and research
  • Work in a coaching capacity with new and developing age group athletes, both in a group and individual settings
  •  Work in a coaching capacity with youth and junior age group athletes in a group or team setting
  •  Access credible resources for ongoing development and education
  • Ability to start coaching as a Level 1 Playtri Coach at the end of the Certification

5:00- 5:30pm:  Check in, introduction and welcome

5:30-6:00pm:  Intro to endurance sport science and periodization theory

7:00-8:00pm:  Measuring fitness - an exploration of overall fitness as the basis for success in triathlon and endurance sport

8:00pm: Day End

2017

8:00-10:30am:  The long-term training plan – writing and adjusting over time

10:30-12:30pm:  Analyzing power, heart rate and other available metrics, and utilizing your data effectively

12:30-1:30pm:  Lunch

1:30-2:30pm: The art of the taper and how to write the goal race plan

2:30-4:00pm: Triathlon swimming – technique, strategy, pool versus open water

4:00pm: Quick Break 

4:15-5:45pm: Triathlon cycling – Equipment review, bike fit, effective training methods, technique, time trial versus draft-legal strategy

5:45-7:15pm: Triathlon running – performing off the bike, technique, strategy, effective training methods

7:15-7:30pm: Wrap up/Q & A

USAT MEMBERSHIP

The certification will be USAT sanctioned. You must be a USAT annual member or purchase a one day membership to participate in the USAT Sanctioned Event.

8:00-9:30am:  Effective strength training - addressing imbalances, creating a foundation for technique and endurance in triathlon

9:30-11:00am: Nutrition for endurance athletes – short versus long course, general guidelines, weight loss, use of performance testing for nutrition planning

11:00-11:15am: Quick Break

11:15-12:15pm: Mental tactics and development – practical tools and techniques, developing self-discipline and long-term habits in athletes

12:15-1:30pm: Youth and developmental athletes – development stages and their implications, competency/skill based coaching to build a foundation for success

1:30-2:30pm: Lunch break

2:30-3:00pm: Business practices and coaching etiquette

3:00-3:30pm: Resources for continuing development

3:30-4:00pm: Wrap up and final Q&A

*Those pursuing full time coaching positions with Playtri will get a personal one on one session to discuss the business of triathlon, effective marketing strategies, budgeting for success, etc.
